I very much doubt that Hasbro could safely release any of the pre-existing fan made remixes without opening a can of copyright issues (that they have been lax on). They can acknowledge the talented fanbase and interest in remixes without hitting any major copyright problems by having new remixes made with their official blessing.
 
And yeah, the S3+ songs are definitely more pop, having many more musical voices/instruments underlying the song to make the remixing hard. The songs are certainly far from terrible, but there’s not the major earworm that WWU was (outside of Filli Vanilli, YMMV).

I certainly have noticed a change in FIM’s musical direction, post-S3. Seems like there’s a lot more pop songs…stuff that sounds like it’s straight off the radio or some tween idol’s album. Just the general feel of a lot of the songs sounds very “tween pop”-ish, just like all the songs in both EQG movies.
 
S1 and S2’s music was great, for the most part. Everything past S3 however, is just…it’s not BAD, just really mediocre.
 
The fact that Hasbro is releasing “official” remixes of the show’s songs is just weird, considering the shitload of fanmade remixes that already exist.

On some podcast (can’t remember where), someone pointed out that songs from S4 onward lack that certain something that makes them easily remixable, as compared to say WWU or Art of the Dress. (The exception might be “I’ll Fly”). Certainly there is the waning number of artists, but there’s also just a lack of good remixable material to work with.
