Twilicane was a pun on Twilicorn - no-one really confused it with a cane. And yeah, flasks get called beakers a lot by laypeople. I’m a chemist by training, working in a lab, and even my coworkers call them beakers half the time.

I’ve noticed a lot of shows and cartoons incorrectly call erlenmeyer flasks beakers. It used to bother me a lot but I learned to deal with it. It’s just one of those common misnomers, like how everyone calls gun magazines “clips”. (Or a more topical example: when everyone called that Twilight scepter a cane.)
