Yeah, the pony thread got surprisingly big on there. Surprisingly, even Ian Flynn (writer for Sonic & Megaman) stated he loved seeing the first 2-parter episode of MLP:FiM. (Though, he hasn’t had time to see the rest of the series, he writes for quite a few comics now.)

Don’t take offense, I’ve used MSPaint before too. You’d probably still be better then “Many Hands” though.

Yeah, that was what I meant, I used to go there a lot, and a certain thread lead me to ponies in early 2011. I think I recall your name too.

Hey, I used to make pixel art in MS paint, I still would if I didn’t migrate to Linux. :P

I don’t know, but Jonathan Grey is an admin on writer Ian Flynn’s “Bumbleking” forums. (I used to go there alot under the name “Count Koopula.”) Grey is a very hilarious guy, he did a Q&A session once on the board that was full of hilarity. (Sadly, I think said thread got deleted for some reason later on.)
I used to dislike Jonathan Grey’s art at first, but then it grew on me.

Oh man, Ron Lim’s art was kinda very weird, no offense to him. One of the worst Sonic comic artists though is usually considered by fans to be an artist only known as “Many Hands” who drew for only one comic. Seriously, it looks like it was drawn in MSPaint, or something.

I like him, I wonder if he’s still a mod on the official forums.

Damn, I remember an image floating round there from a few years back that showed a panel of sonic as drawn by every artist that worked on the series up to that point, and it usually showed them at their best, or worst. Ron Lim was notoriously terrible, and gave Sonic a freaky uni-eye.

I think Jonathan Grey was the first fanartist to get a job on the official Archie Sonic comic.

Dave Manek could draw the old Sonic fairly well, (and a good SatA.M.-style Robotnik) but yeah when he did the modern one, (like in the “Island of Misfit badniks” backup story a few years ago) he wasn’t to good…
Art Mawhinney had trouble drawing the modern Sonic too, which is probably why we don’t see him anymore either. (He did make the Sonic characters kinda adorable though regardless.)

Useless geeky fact: Art Mawhinney also did storyboards for the old DiC Sonic cartoons.

More fanartists, huh? That’s pretty cool.
At least there’s no more Dave Manek, or that other guy from the early runs who could legitimately not draw modern Sonic at all and made these bizarre, unnatural hybrids that were out of place in the darker stories of 2004ish era. Discrepancy at the worst.

Yeah, Ken’s art left alot to be desired, (though his pencil art for the Zelda comic wasn’t bad, he was better at drawing humans, I guess) while I kinda like how they’re drawing the characters more Sega-like now in Archie, I do kinda agree with you. I kinda miss seeing other art styles in the comic. I’d even welcome back Stephen Butler drawing them all anthro’ again, and such just for a change of pace.
I did find ChibiJenHen’s art quite unique though. (Yes, she recently got to draw for the official comic. Nice to see another good fanartist on board.)

Yeah, the Sonic fandom is known for it’s debates. ;)

I think the main reason I loved Knuckles’ comic series was much was that many of the issues were drawn by Manny Galan, and his art was lovely. Ken Penders, while I legitly liked his stories, he couldn’t draw for shit and only got worse as time went on in the main books as he only understood classic Sonic character anatomy, and never grasped the modern style at all. Honestly the artwwork, good and bad, is what I loved about the series the most, and I was a bit diappointed that most of the artists on it now are a little too samey. That means less god-awful art, but also less manga inspired, or more stylized art.

I don’t like Amy anyway so that doesn’t bother me, but I recall seeing that debate back in the day, good times. :P

Not a very good comparison actually. In fact, despite the “Sonic drama” sometimes, many bronies are in fact Sonic fans to. (You can be both a Sonic fan, and MLP-fan, unlike being a certain political party.) I like both series just fine. (Though, I’ve kinda lost track with the Sonic series a bit, as I can’t afford the new games/comics.)

Besides, the discussion isn’t that “heated,” we’re both being quite calm, and mature about it. (Unlike some people here when discussing something as controversial as “Sanik”)

@Background Pony #49A2
Well to each their own. I admit I like Yoshi too. To be honest, I prefer the Mario series over Sonic. (Which comes as a surprise to many, as I gained a reputation as Derpibooru’s “resident Sonic expert,” as I know alot about the series/franchise. lol)

I kinda miss Sonic’s “brotherly” friendship with Tails, I kinda wish the modern games/cartoons would regard it. The Archie Sonic comics sometimes do, and I agree I like the Archie series to.

And yeah, STC Tails gets alot of verbal abuse… Spike actually gets way more respect then him.
I also kinda agree about the art… (I prefer the Archie series’ art, even if it wasn’t always perfect either.)

I remember an episode where Amy was mad at Sonic, and such, so he wasn’t always treated like a “saint,” or “Gary-Su” in SX.
I think the hate for Chris came from the fact the SX show kinda focused a bit more on him sometimes then Sonic & his friends some felt. Some also didn’t like him taking Amy’s role in the SA2 arc as the one who convinces Shadow to pull a heel-face-turn.

Sorry to disappoint, but I like ponies and Sonic, in fact, liking the Sonic comics lead me to ponies. I don’t follow the Sonic series much these days, but I don’t hate it and I never will, I just don’t like some aspects of it, a normal fan thing.

I just do, and I also hate Mario, but I prefer Yoshi, I think I discussed this before. :P
I hate Sonic on his own, his solo personality bugs me, but his dynamic with Tails, or by extension, other characters, can be good and allow me to tolerate him.

I really don’t like the fleetway portrayel either, but I only barely read some early issue scans several years ago, and goddamn, Tails is like Spike, a perpetual punching bag, shat on by the world for being a little kid. Also, it’s nitpiicky, but the later artstyle in the Fleetway comic was butt-ugly. No offense to the main artist, as I know he was/is a prominent member of some comunities, but that art is what I think of when I see the term assface sonic and not the old American boxart, which was just silly in comparison.

I think my biggest gripe with Sonic X is that Sonic was treated like a saint in the world. I know everyone hated Chris, but that kid did nothing to bother me like Sonic did.
