@nitroman9
The comic showed filly Twilight playing with teenagers Cadance and Shining in the background simply because it came out right after their comic arc where they meet and fall in love. It was a reference just like that same arc showed Big Mac looking for iron nail in that fair.
Chronologically this makes no sense, being that the show already stated Moondancer was the same age as Twilight Sparkle when they were kids. I am sure even the staff on the comic knew her when she was merely mentioned in the first episode back then.
Since we’re only talking about aesthetic design here… I think the Cook/Price version looks better, mostly because I’m not a fan of show!Moondancer’s coat colour (chosen probably because it was the exact opposite of Twilight’s).
I understand why DHX made the design choices they did, and I support it, but I just like her toy-canon white coat more, although I love the glasses and giant eyebrows the show gave her.
PS - Yes I do consider the comics canon. Only exception is if they’re directly contradicted by the show and I can’t easily headcanon it away. In this instance, I can (and have). Got a problem with that? Too bad.
Well, for me, the show version actually makes more sense. Maybe her mane style was more like Fluttershy’s before she met Twilight, but my head cannon is that Moondancer changed her mane and tail style to match Twilight because she admired her so much that she became obsessed with her. Which explains why she reacted so dramatically when Twi skipped her party. Feeling betrayed, she then chose to change her mane style, as to AVOID looking like Twilight.
So I think I’ll go with the show version. Though she could REALLY use a trip to the spa! Or perhaps Minuette should grab her brush!(brushie, brushie! XD)
This. This is my headcanon too and I presented it on Derpibooru before people went “herp derp, IDW not canon”
Not necessarily. She could have just decided to change her mane style, and had a hair tie handy. Putting her hair in a ponytail would be quick, easy, and would be sufficient to accomplish her goal. Sure her tail and the back of her mane are still like Twilight’s but she wouldn’t have to be reminded of Twilight every time she looked in the mirror.
And also, based on her appearance, she doesn’t seem very concerned with maintaining or styling her hair. Which would support the ‘quick and easy fix’ theory. And she probably wouldn’t care if it looked good or attractive, just as long as it didn’t look like Twilight. In fact, she may have WANTED it to look unattractive, as to deter other ponies from approaching her.
In all honesty, I’m not overly fond of the concept of simply recoloring an existing character for a new character, it just seems lazy on the artists’ part, and I would like to see Moondancer adopt a new look for herself that is all her own, but it does fit her character VERY well to mimic Twilight’s look. Girls do it in real life all the time. That’s why I like the cartoon’s version more. It just fits her character so much better. And like I said, she may have had the longer mane and tail style before she met Twilight.
But I digress, this is just my head-cannon of Moondancer. There’s no point in arguing about it.
I would think that if that were the case she would try a little harder than putting a dumb looking pigtail on top of her head if she really didn’t want to look like Twilight.

And look, no upwards curl at check level either in any of these images, even yours. The images you posted refute none of my points. So what the heck do you mean by “Not in the comics”?
My man!
not the show one, then :p
Jokes aside, obviously the non-TS recolor looks better.
You make it sound like an even bigger chronological mess.

Nah, THIS
rk9?
Yeah, …ew
Score foe /rk9/ incarnate with the luscious eyebrows.
RUDE
Moondancer’s coat colour
DAT IRONIC U THO
Her coat was that cream yellow/white for her Europe-only G1 toy (and apparently not even all of Europe? Germany, at least).

Hey look, someone who actually gets it.

What are you trying to say? And you should use look at an image showing her tail on the ground:

Not in comics:
Still feels like another Fluttershy to me.
Nope, Fluttershy doesn’t have that upwards curl in her hair next to her cheek.
The end of Fluttershy’s tail is also much thinner. This one here is quite thick, and spirals much more tightly.
