Nightmare Moon was born from her envy. This thing was born from her guilt.
P.S. This reminds me of Neko and Tiger from Monogatari Series.
When it transformed, I was thinking that this was nightmare moon’s true spirit form.
I think it would be fitting that Princess Luna and Princess Celestia were seen as Children of the Full Moon.
