Oh.
I just assumed the Pokemon names had been localized, and standard English rules were thus in effect.
“The More You Know . . .”
Foongus has no sweet moves. Venasuar and Rosearade are way better grass/poison types.
@Blissey1
lol true, I assume you hate coming into a horde of them in gen 6?
Since it’s weak to itself? Or, wait, that’s all damn Plant/Poison-Types. Do you mean it’s pretty much a Plant-Type Voltorb? X3
Crobat is pretty cool, but zubat can go die in a fire.
It is true that plurals in English is a huge mess >.<
Except that English “rules” concerning pluralisation are essentially an inconsistent mess that are sometimes based on a word’s origin or the subject.
Note how the singular = plural rule tends to apply both to hunted animals and certain words borrowed from Japanese (including samurai apparently).
Hunter: I shot a bunch of deer today.
Bug Catcher: Check out these Pokémon I caught.
Either way, you technically still can’t add an extraneously Roman letter to 忍者、侍、日本人、刀、ゲッコーガ、or プリン。You can if they’re typed in Roman. XD
ninjas, samurais, katanas
When using a word in another language, that word now follows that language rules.
Just like how English (American) developers sometimes uses the answer ‘no’ for none, and the direction ‘left’ for remaining - making it impossible to translate to any other language.
The Japanese developers of Pokémon didn’t include a function for pluralise Pokémon names, so translators didn’t have much of a choice.
(Another example: Google Translate contains a list of languages; this list is of nouns. For their OCR-function (reading text in real life), they used the same list of nouns, as an adjective. Doesn’t affect the English language, but do affect other languages).
Probably, unless we are already calling them something else but in any case we probably should have a tag for them and apply said tags to relevant images for search purposes.
To lazy to do it myself though.
Well, it’s applies the same rules as the plural for Ninja or Samurai. Try to pluralize these: Nihon-jin, Katana, Gekkouga; then prepare yourself for a fist thrust towards your face. X3
It obvious I know fewer Japanese names for Pokemon than a retired Civil War Re-enactor, yeah?… Wait, never mind, I’m forgetting Purin. XD
wut
That being said, this is pretty fun, though Geodude is way worse.
I remember being deep in one of those caves once after an important save (I think I caught something I had forgotten to catch) and then I realized I was out of repels and didn’t have an escape rope… irritating does not begin to discrib it.
