Unless I’m remembering it wrong, which I may be, the Spartan II program was developed on Reach, so the initial battle between the Spartans and the invading Covenant on that planet would have involved the surviving Spartan IIs. They were the first to have the powered armor, after all.

Is this before or after the Spartan IIs are created by kidnapping children, performing horrendously invasive surgery, and killing the majority of them during childhood due to training incidents or complications from the procedures?
