TL:DR: Mesh has extreme limitations, ZRA is slowly working on updating their ponies, and agreed to to each their own.
Long version * pops knuckles Alrighty. Transparency issues, once again, have always been the forefront of any issue with any sort of prim, whether mesh, sculpt, or standard out-of-date prim.
The mesh avatar layering does tend to glitch once you start wearing multiple layers with a 50/50 error rate being related to either layering issues, or transparency. I have a BG feline (which sucks and the head is creepy as the Kemono) and a VISS bunny (which is cute yet still has lack of clothing), so I have played around with mesh a bit.
Clothing, especially with furry avatars, is difficult since the issues of incompatibility arise. You can sit there and surf endlessly for mesh clothing for that avatar, but are also required to keep the type of avatar that you are using since no other type of clothing, skin, what have you won’t work for a preset-by-default avatar. Legacy clothing, which I use in conjunction with my mesh attachments, have a lot more ease of use since you can layer as many levels of clothing that you want and not have to worry about your prim attachment limit (which is 32 items).
While new mesh body makers and the lab HAVE been working to release a new way of using default skins and clothing, you still have to do some layering, which again, eats away at your attachment limits. I do agree that mesh bodies do look better and legacy (like mine) is a bit blocky (a lot at extremes), the lab still has far to go. Mesh only did come out in 2011 so it’s still relatively young.
Though, on a side note with ZRA, I have talked to Avinz/Opal Artful and she has told me that she is going to start making a V4 pony that will have mesh legs, so she has been messing with mesh a bit, but since she just had her second child, it will be a while now before she can get on full time like she used to.
And don’t think I’m trying to ride you off as legacy is superior to mesh. Both have their limitations and advantages. Like you said, to each their own. ^^
@AlushyTheTyrant
True there, through I cant say I agree with your transparency issue. A lot of the time going for a decent body mesh will resolve that. Clothing wise, well it depends on what type of a body you use ^^
@djhors3
Indeed. Besides, being on SL since 2008, legacy methods are by far easier to work with than mesh. Full mesh avatars have a horrible side effect of having layers showing that aren’t supposed to be showing and it’s all due to the lameness of the lab not fixing things with transparency and transparent prims, plus more clothing options for older avatars than with mesh.
Personally not a Fan of the ZRA stuff these days, the head especially shows itself as dated.
If you’re willing to put some time and effort in its not too hard to create a nice cute lil pone
If you need help with the cutie mark, I can work on that bit for you since it would need to be a tattoo layer. Everything else is a walk in the park. Clothing can set you back a bit depending on which route you want to go. I still use legacy style clothing since it just works, but mesh is always an option, just a bit more costly, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing and mess up things. I can explain things in more detail once I get to talk to you on SL.
@Jade Aurora
You can usually buy 2000L$ for 8.40 USD, unless they raised the price again. I haven’t had payment info on file for a while so I’m cut out from being able to use that feature. I only got all of my money by pole dancing at a club, hehe.
@Jade Aurora
You’re welcome. Just let me know of what you are wanting to do with her and I can nab some prices. I can tell you right now that with my 3 mares, I have over L$ 10,000 spent on them.

Each to their own then ^^
I already have multiple pony avatars yet ZRA is still by far my fav, even if it is outdate. Personally, mesh avatars suck.

Google gives it as .012 USD = 1 L$
…What does L$1 translate to in USD?

I will after work since apparently the SL site is blocked here. Thanks! <3
I could help with stock bases and such. I have quite a few from ZRA that are good to start with. hit me up on there and I can give you a hoof > https://my.secondlife.com/vlad.malifozik
If only I had /any/ idea how to make Second Life avatars… I’ve wanted to do that for a while.
Nope, surprisingly. I just love artwork, and love seeing “myself” in artwork.
Yeah, 81 uses. Made me wonder if she’s part of a big epic fan-thing like Nyx or Snowdrop.
That’d be my OC, Jade Aurora. She has a tag listed here, actually!
