I didn’t say she was poorly written, just that she doesn’t have much in the way of personal episodes. When she’s not the focus, she tends to be great moral support and the like. And her episodes are mostly average, like Fluttershy.

Same could be said about any of the mane 6.
AJ is the headstrong one, down to earth, and keeps the group together.

Ticket Master: Wants the gala ticket for pure financial benefit, even if that means trampling over the dreams of her friends
Applebuck Season: Stubbornly refuses to accept help out of a matter of pride to the point of endangering her friends on several counts and outright poisoning about half the population
Look Before You Sleep: Aggressively forces her lifestyle on one of her friends with complete disregard for said friend’s psychological issues, causing a lot of property damage in her friend’s house in the crossfire
Fall Weather Friends: Deliberately assaults her athletic rival during the competition and displays terrible sportsmanship throughout the competition
Over A Barrel: Drags friends into a civil war scenario and supports unlawful expropriation without any notion of diplomacy
Cutie Mark Chronicles: Abandons her family as a child, despite Ticket Master and Applebuck Season strongly implying that the Apple family would fall into financial ruin and likely starve without her pitching in
Best Night Ever: Completely disregards the rules of salesmanship and attempts to coerce customers into buying her merchandise (EXTREMELY hypocritically, considering her reaction to Applebloom’s “marketing” of apples in Call of the Cutie)
And that’s just Season 1, for starters…
She deserves to be ignored and hated.
