Apparently you didn’t know Townsville’s mayor is named Mayor.
That one is easy, it could be that she was originally named after the apple but later in life her name would have a double meaning.
Or it could have originally been an ironic name like Walt Disney’s “nine old men” (who were in their 20’s when they got that title).
Yeah, it’s cute, but you have to wonder about some of the more specific names in the show. They really have those names their whole lives? Someone really named their kid Granny Smith?
For me, the problem with the name “Mayor Mare” is that either the “Mayor” part is part of her birth name, or originally, her name was just “Mare”, which is way too short and generic for a good pony name.
