Just imagine Gadget’s dialogue here: “Go Go, Gadget Legs! Go Go Gadget Neck! Go Go Gadget Magnifying Glass!” Meanwhile, Harshwhinny Penny is just amazed these prompts actually worked the first time around.

I hear that originally Penny was supposed to be super strong, but that obviously never made it into any of her incarnations. The only time it happened was in “One Man of the Mountain”, possibly as a homage.
The funniest thing about Inspector Gadget was, the soundtrack/background music really kicked ass. I’ve been listening to some of it on Youtube. Haim Saban & Shuki Levy really know how to rock those ’80s synthesizers.
Surprisingly, some characters like Penny & Brain have their own leitmotifs, complete with (French) vocals. They even have several variations on the themes.
Background music in general is very underappreciated. Saban & Levy did some very awesome cartoon soundtracks. (They also did music for the Real Ghostbusters, Heathcliff/Cats & Co., The Super Mario Bros. Super Show/Zelda, and many others.)
Penny as an earth pony, interesting. I assumed she would be an unicorn considering her mental capabilities (and ability to levitate her book would be useful), but I suppouse she is strong physically for her age, so being an earth pony somewhat works.

That was part of the main “joke” of the show, but you got to give Gadget some credit for unintentionally driving the bad guys crazy, and such too. (Sometimes his clumbsyness, and cluelessness came in handy. Sometimes he would accidently solve the case, or uncover a priceless artifact.)
There were a few rare episodes where Gadget was slightly more competent, like the first episode. (But still a bumbler.)
I loved it too, but, Penny & Brain were the real inspectors of that show. Penny put herself in a lot of situations to help her uncle Gadget out & Brain did too.
Maxwell Smart.
And his first?

So did I. One of my favorite cartoons.
Anyway, they both look really good as ponies.
