“Trolled”? What show have you been watching? Trolling is annoying, but largely harmless. Torturing people at every opportunity for your own amusement, reckless alteration of nature rendering the land unusable, and handing the nation to an even more dangerous entity on a silver platter do NOT fall under trolling.
Which would have destroyed Equestria outright, along with everyone in it, as the nation relies on magic simply to remain habitable. Much like Nightmare Moon, his stated goal might not have been genocide, but that would have been the end result.
His stated goal was just to steal all the Pony magic in Equestria, not to kill everypony.
In fairness, Discord just wanted to spread chaos. All that really happened was everypony was being “trolled” I doubt anypony had died because of Discord.
While Tirek on the other hand wanted blood and destruction. He was hell bent on genocide.
Given a choice between spending an eternity in a cell in Tartarus or being reformed by Fluttershy, I suspect Tirek would choose the former.
Which begs the question of why Discord’s running loose. He has more counts of nearly destroying Equestria on his rap sheet than anyone else - as many as the next two villains combined, in fact. And the only time he’s expressed any remorse for his schemes is after they’ve blown up in his face.
