That’s probably true.

The original rules for the 2015 edition of the once-every-four-years Friendship Games state that any violation of the event’s rules (including the use of magic) is prohibited and will result in disqualification of the entire school. Later on, the board of education added a stipulation to the event’s rules, which goes as follows:  
“If Canterlot High School wins the Friendship Games this year, Crystal Preparatory Academy will be forced to close permanently.”

I assume there’s actually going to be quite a bit of conflic between the Shadowbolts.
 
With Sugarcoat causing blunt trauma, Indigo Zap being an hypercompetitive peer-pressuring jerk, Sour Sweet telling them EXACTLY what she thinks, Sunny Flare probably being the type to tell an authority figure anything suspicious (whenever it’s a good or bad thing), Lemon Zest being a perfectionist drill-sargent, and Twilight probably being stuck somewhere between sucking at sports and not really doing her best because MUST INVESTIGATE MAGIC AT CHS and turning into a magic-welding antagonist… I’d be surprised if they don’t end killing eachother.
 
This is probably one of the few times (I’ve seen that) the Underdog Losers aren’t a ragtag bunch of misfits, but their talented rich elite rival Opposing Sports Team IS.
 
Of course, this is assuming the personalities between doll and animated version match, and everything plays out like I think it will.

Sunny Flare always plays fair and doesn’t let cheating slide. There’s no way she’d let the Shadowbolts cheat.

Eh, I hope that actually doesn’t happen.
 
Have the Shadowbolts win simply because they’re genuinely better, not because the Games are fixed in their favor.
 
Have them lose because the Wondercolts genuinely improved.
 
Or whatever the outcome is, that is based on the skill of both teams.
