I’d be fine with that honestly, as long as they don’t go overboard, and still have some original ideas/stories, as well. Given all the “new” things/characters/places/villains in the series, I wouldn’t worry about that though.
 
I liked the new “Smooze” BTW.
 
And yeah, sense Metal & Shadow were in the game adaption, I am curious why they weren’t used in the show yet. The Archie Sonic comics have a lot of classic characters who reappear in it. (In fact, they even recently brought back Breezie from AoStH, and Honey the cat from “Sonic the Fighrers.” 2 rather now obscure characters.)

Yes, ‘reboot’ seems to be a better word, even though there’s a weird naming situation. G3’s official name was “My Little Pony”, FiM’s official name is the same “My Little Pony”, plus a subtitle “Friendship is Magic” - such naming technique usually means it’s a spinoff. See Equestria Girls.
 
In its beginning, it was pretty much another shot at G3.5, which itself was a reboot of G3, which itself was a reboot of the brand. So one of FiM’s titles appears to be “A reboot of a reboot of a reboot”. There are many small details that carried over from G3.5 into FiM, as far as I can see. Or maybe my vision is just screwed beyond belief.
 
Nods to previous generations is something FiM does almost exclusively, and I fear that what once was a bunch of small acknowledging nods to the brand’s legacy will turn into direct usage of previous installments for plot ideas.
 
This is something FiM’s Tirek has made me wonder about.

Which is odd, considering Metal’s already in the Boom games, as well as Shadow. The season is nearing its end, so if not now, then probably in the next season, where they’ll have a little bit more freedom with the universe.

Sort’ve, it’s more like a new “reboot” series with nods/characters from previous shows/canons. (Much like the new Nick TMNT, and such.)
 
I kinda wish “Sonic Boom” was like that… (We have yet to see Metal Sonic or any other “classic Sonic characters” in the show besides the main characters.) I guess I’m a sucker for seeing rebooted classic characters come back.

Of course, G3 Rainbow Dash would get on G4 Dashie’s nerves. She’d be good friends with Rarity probably instead.
