Look at the rose. Im pretty sure Discord just let the spell work. Its impossible for any of them to surpass, or even come close, to someone who can manipulate reality at his leisure, with minimal effort, and no restrictions.

Yeah sure. Completely disregard that they’re no longer technically enemies so he doesn’t have any reason to have his guard up in any way. That dumb giant Tatzlwurm also “affected” him (made him sick) for the same reason. How does it prove they’re “stronger” when even after a thousand years some random seeds he created (and can dissipate with a click) are more than enough to overpower and restrain both of them without any hope of escape?
 
Also, he toys with reality. His power is far above theirs and will always be. He can just take their horns away and that’s it. No more magic ever again unless he wants to give them back. Its pretty clear Celestia and Luna (and Discord too most likely) already reached their max power a long time ago. The only one still growing is Twilight.

Luna knows that Discord could take over any time he wanted to. He doesn’t need a plan to overthrow the Princesses. He’d just need Fluttershy to agree with him, without mind control, that it’s a good idea. And she never will.
 
Two alicorns together aren’t a match for Discord (even now… the fact that he laid himself out like he was dead, with a rose folded between his paws, makes it clear that he let Luna’s spell get through. Probably because he’s really tired and wants to sleep.) Three alicorns might be, if they’re Luna, Celestia and Twilight, but Luna and Celestia are out of practice and Twilight is still inexperienced. The Rainbow Power might be able to stop him, but it’s unlikely that the fear of it would prevent him from acting, if he felt like it. The only thing that stops him from taking over is friendship… but it’s a pretty solid chain.

I also don’t think Discord has a problem with lying, if it suits him to do so. He has out-and-out lied (when he claimed to be innocent in Princess Twilight Sparkle). But things like claiming the Smooze was his friend in college isn’t even lying, it’s a joke.

You really can’t take the things Discord says that seriously. The likelihood that Discord was ever in college is… astronomically low. Smooze is obviously more of a friendly acquaintance than a friend, given Discord’s dismissive attitude toward him. And Discord never actually said Luna can see his dreams. He said he didn’t dream of becoming a princess, and that they should ask Princess Luna… who might well have had to honestly answer “I have no idea” if they did ask her, but since it was a joke, they weren’t going to ask her.
 
Discord doesn’t lie so much as he says whatever is funny at the time, but that means you cannot take everything he says seriously.

So Discord admits to Luna’s face that he spends his time coming up with plans to overthrow her and Celly and old Moon-butt is okay with this? Luna honey, when Discord turns on you and your big sis yet again, I will have no sympathy.

Discord is very much susceptible to any spell as much as he isn’t expecting it. Tirek defeated him the same way mostly because he didn’t expect the betrayal and was schocked enough to not even attempt to banish him from that dimension or at least teleport himself away.  
Even Dash was able to plant a punch on him. He is only strong when he is prepared and planned something ahead.

Possibly, but insomnia can probably make spell resistance shot to hell. Sleep spells can work on big-bads if they are weakened.
 
Plus, he pulled out a flower, so he’s enough of a drama queen to play it out.

Though it’s true that Discord already mentioned that Luna can see his dreams in Twilight Kingdom. It would make sense for this comic to take place before that but from what i know Whitley based the premise on the events from that episode. So he choose to retcon that sentence or at least imply that Discord was lying. He did the same thing with Discord saying that Shy is his first friend while writing Butterdragon as his first friend. But that may have been just a lie since we already know that Discord had Smooze as some kind of a friend in College.

Interesting that the show gives Discord sharp teeth but the comics give him square ones.

Luna makes the best entrances through the door, so majestic (actually it seems she makes the best entrances in general).  

 
Also poor Twilight, but one can’t blame her after all she’s been through as of late. I mean changing species and been crowned as one of the rulers, dealing with ultimate evil, losing her home and what not. I think S5 already got a record of insomnia moments for Twi.

It looks like Discord … has been put to sleep.
