Most gay people don’t talk or act like this it was mainly just a stereotype on t.v. to drive home the point the character was very flamboyant there are some who do talk like this but most don’t.

Because the gay pride movement emphasized the fuck out of it among the whole “we’re here, we’re queer, get over it” stuff. It was a way to be openly gay, therefore it became associated with homosexuality.
