In other words, a blooper that stayed in because it was a cool gag or whatnot.
He was off camera by the time the sound started.
… “It’s A Wonderful Life”, the one with Jimmy Stewart. The scene where Uncle Billy is drunk and walking off and it sounds like he walks into a bunch of trash cans, exactly when it was actually another person on set who knocked over props - and I’m not sure if it was dubbed in later or not but the actor then said “I’m alright, I’m allllllright!” and then kept acting in character.
