Original description:

Not sure if everypony has heard, but earlier this year, Target announced that they would be removing pink and blue and other gender “color codes” from their Toy and most other departments (excluding clothing), in order to be more egalitarian, and this piece is pretty much my impression of everyone complaining about it. :D

It strikes me as strange that so many folks believe this whole “Blue Team”/“Pink Team” thing as been around forever, when it’s actually a fairly recent development in human history, which got its start in the 1930’s and 40’s, and was largely decided for us by clothing corporations. Some of us have grandparents who actually remember a time before it existed. Even a time when pink was considered “strong and masculine” and blue was regarded as “passive and feminine”. :P

More than anything, this whole matter just seems to dredge up both how much ignorance prevails in our society, as well as how flexible human culture really is…

Complaining about removing them is silly, but so is pretending to be above simple gender marketing.

Boys and Girls tend to enjoy different things, and companies market based on that distinction in demographics, if anything is ignorance it’s thinking that removing a bunch of colors is going to change that.

Also 30’s and 40’s hardly recent human history, that’s older than the holocaust for crying out loud.

And not the angry kind
Last I checked that might not go so well because ever since that whole thing got started toy companies have been building their whole business models around competing between boy and girl markets…

The “pink aisle” is most likely still going to be fully pink, because of the color of the toy boxes.
