I was about to say that; green flames generally are due to specific chemicals igniting.

I don’t know what “gauge” refers to, here, but I know that flame temperature can have two routes: electrons being excited and de-excited to release photons at a particular wavelength, or black body emissions.
 
For something to register as brilliant green like that, it needs to peak pretty sharply in a narrow range of wavelengths in a way that black body emissions won’t, so it’s almost certainly a result of electron de-excitation.
 
In other words, I think it’s green because of the particular chemicals burning in it, not from its temperature :p

I love how Spike is like, canonically a tank. We’ve got that and belly flopping in lava, at least, and his flame may be small, but he did melt a lock once.

Spike was in rare form this episode. He’s the one who talks Fluttershy into joining the Nightmare Night festivities with the girls, and then when things get hairy, he gets to play the hero like this.
