Yeah, I was way off. I’ve watched the movie now, and everything went in a totally different direction than I thought it would. Ah well.

I haven’t watched the movie yet, but yeah, I’ve seen enough screenshots to know Midnight Sparkle is a villain in the movie.
 
Though I maintain that “Midnight” doesn’t necessarily imply evil. Names like “Stellar Eclipse” and even “Twilight” itself imply darkness and the disappearance of light. An example of an unambiguously evil name in that vein would be Nightmare Moon.
 
I should probably retire from these threads until I’ve seen the movie. Hopefully I can find a proper capture tomorrow. I’m looking forward to seeing how they resolve the situation at the end. I can’t imagine the movie ends with human Twilight being evil, that would be very unlike this show.

I don’t know where this idea that ponies with similar colors are automatically related comes from. Typically, pony color patterns and relation have nothing to do with each other. For example, look at Twilight’s family, or the Apples.

Only a guess but I think Sunny flare and principal cinch might be related. They both have a similar colouring and on the official website sunny has been described as a snitch. Maybe she is feeding information to cinch through her bracelet? From the intro scene it looked like sunny was the leader.

Her face reminds me of evil.

Is that where she keeps the souls of the students that failed to make the grade?

From what we’ve seen in the trailers so far, she already lives with it, and she’s miserable. If she takes on the role of a protagonist, and that seems pretty clear at this point, there’s no way they would send her back without a change in the other students. I can’t imagine that.
 
Fortunately we won’t have to wait long to find out. Me, I’m really looking forward to the movie. I think it’s going to be great.

and why would Midnight sparkle be anything besides an evil transform of the human Twilight from when her pilfered magic gets out of control?
 
And, the students are not evil, just competitive jerks. I’m fairly certain human Twi can live with that.
 
I don’t know how much piss they plan to take if the other shadowbolts are suddenly worthy to befriend by the end.
 
And the alternative is that Midnight sparkle happens, they lose anyway, and Cinch’s record is broken, as will likely her spirit as she retires a broken woman.
 
Edit:but taking those lyrics into account, she might transfer back to her old school for some reason, I don’t know.
