Remember, boys and girls, this name is for little boys and girls collecting action figures and dolls. Hasbro probably had a poll asking young kids which name is best for her and Daydream Shimmer probably came out on top. I am only speculating of course.

I would have gone for Sunrise Shimmer or something like that.
 
I get the parallel they’re going for between Nightmare and Daydream, but ‘Daydream’ has connotations of something ephemeral or whimsical; it seems a little lightweight compared to Midnight Sparkle.

I prefer Sunset Phoenix myself. “Daydream Shimmer” is misleading, I had daydreams about her long before this movie.
