Hmm, are some of the voices different in these dubs? I swear Fluttershy and Luna sound different than in the show. I don’t actually watch FiM, I prefer EG, but I did watch Japanese clips of FiM out of curiosity. Oh, and I watches German Simpsons and French Futurama…

Well, the Japanese audience had to learn Eigo/English in some way as the songs were not dubbed out of respect, and those movies were not published by Disney – take Frozen (or Anna and the Snow Queen) for example, wherein at least every song was translated.
 
And yes, MLP in Japan just changed hands from Bushiroad to SEGA Toys, merch-wise.

The Japanese watch subs or raw versions of FiM after the cancellation of the Japanese show. There is a possibility of a Japanese Season 3 if a TV slot opens up and there is nothing to fill it. Japanese Television is fickle as fuck, they will even rush and produce low quality episodes of a show just because they need something to put on the screen, see the sudden dip in art and animation in Sailormoon Crystal and Dragonball Super.
 
Anyway, the songs weren’t dubbed, right? I have the Japanese version of Rainbow Rocks and none of the songs are dubbed, they’re all English.

All of the 8-11 shorts from Rainbow Rocks dubbed/subbed could have been added, not that the dub team there is aware of them.

yeah, actually japanese and other asian artists draw equestria girls more than ponies, uotapo for example. so… I think eg is a little more popular than ponies in japan… probably…

What I understood from the link, the cast hasn’t changed. They also didn’t dub the songs.

I wish I could hear what it sounds like, since I wonder if they use the same voice actresses from the original Japanese dub. At least that would make sense to me.

Either Equestria Girls is more popular than Friendship is Magic, or Hasbro has more interest in pushing it. Maybe a little of both.
