It would have been nicer if they were more friendly to the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

En está escena, Silver Spoon deja de confiar en Tiara de Diamantes por haber sido tan autoritaria, además de asustar a todos los ponis. En “Volando hacia la Meta”, ella y Tiara de Diamantes fueron candidatas para ser portadoras de la bandera de Equestria pero perdieron ante las Crusaders. Tiara de Diamantes en su segundo fracaso ante Pisqueak se convirtió en una gran vergüenza para su madre, quien acabó regañándola pero gracias a las Crusaders, se liberó, además de defenderlas.

I really like the genuinely saddened/hurt look in her eyes during this scene.

That, and losing the school election also broke her ego. Her Mom chewing her out further added onto this totally wrecking her.  
It was sad, but it finally allowed Tiara to realize being mean wasn’t the way to go, and realize while the schoolkids feared her, they didn’t care nor her, or respect her. Even Spoon turned against her.  
The CMC, the ones she treated the worst also being the only ones showing empathy, and concern for her also seemed to genuinely touch her, (look at her face when Sweetie Belle says “We were worried about you”) and encouraged her to become better.
 
This also makes one wonder if all her “failures” in past episodes have been leading up to this emotional breakdown of her’s.  
Remember how fans complained that she never got any comeuppance in “Flight to the Finish?” Considering how her Mother acted over losing a mere school election to a “transplant from Trottingham,” imagine how she felt about her losing an opportunity at the Equestria Games, to a couple of “lower class blank-flanks?”

It was, for the moment. Silver Spoon was the only pony whom Diamond Tiara could consider a friend. Seeing SS turn on her like this was the proverbial “straw that broke the camel’s back.” It’s what sent DT into her existential crisis.
