…except that he didn’t “change it” into a fedora. He just sloppily drew a cartoon-style cowboy hat.
Note this somewhat-buttlike-looking cartoon cowboy hat.
Also, a fedora’s brim does not tip upward in the front - it dips to a shallow point, which the hat depicted above does not.
But changing it to a fedora just adds one more thing that’s come to be a negative symbol. Not sure you’ve noticed, but this artist loves throwing negative symbols around. It would probably be the most subtle symbol in curt’s brony bait to date though.
Just because he didn’t draw it exactly like the original, that doesn’t magically “make” it a fedora.

And you’re right, this parody IS right on the money.
The ponies on either side are bending the brim with their ears, giving the hat the look of rancher fashion but the band around the crown is definitely more fedora than stetson.
Not all of ’em, some of us are skinny, with facial stubble. :P
I hope he keeps it up, just to make you taste the pain.
