I see that now. I think that’s pretty stupid logic also. And it kinda goes for others too. Like R63 Princess Luna’s name is Prince Artemis and people don’t think that should be his name because that’s a girl’s name. That’s stupid. I like Artemis and that’s what is his name is gonna be for me.
Oh, that much makes sense, I’m not arguing against that – I can definitely see the use of having separate names for separate versions of a character to keep which version is which straight.
My confusion comes from the argument that this or that pony name is inherently masculine or feminine. So, for instance, calling Rule 63 Twilight Sparkle Dusk Shine as a way of keeping the two a bit distinct – that I get. Doing it because Twilight Sparkle sounds feminine and Dusk Shine sounds masculine – that I don’t.
I just prefer to use Rule 63 names as opposed to their normal names because I get a stronger feeling that I’m talking about another pony. My exceptions to this are if, let’s say, Twilight genderbent herself to see what it would be like to be a stallion or if it were an accident, I would still see her as Twilight Sparkle. But, if Twilight were already genderbent before, then I would refer to her as her given R63 name Dusk Shine.
To be honest, I always thought most pony names sounded pretty gender-neutral, except for ones like Cadance’s that come from languages with grammatical gender. I get that the fandom ended up developing names for the Rule63 versions of most characters, but outside of names based off of words culturally associated with one gender or the other… well, I never really understood how most pony names have any inherent gender to them.
