If they manage to keep the essence of Starlight, just like every iteration and reboot of Superman or Batman is more or less the same (from Krypton, home planet destroyed, or a rich child whose billionaire parents were shot by mugger) then I’d be okay with it, to be honest.

No, you don’t get it. When I said good and bad aspects I didn’t mean her behavior is partly good and bad but instead I meant her very character so mostly the writing itself. She has a mix of the aspects of a good character and a bad character which makes a clear/100% perception of either subjective and an opinion not a fact. And people have different opinions. You have to accept that.  
Plus, if you think that a character is good then you can still not like certain things about them and vice versa. Something that is wrong with their writing doesn’t have to make them a bad character.

She does have good and bad aspects. That only makes her more human. Ponies and humans both make mistakes. It happens.
 
But that doesn’t mean she deserves hate. Seriously, the hate for her is becoming a meme. She’s not a bad character.

You seem to have a problem with people having a different opinion than yourself. A lot of the things that have been said are subjective. There is no clear definition of what is a good character and what is not. However, being a good character doesn’t mean there is nothing wrong with your writing or other aspects and being a bad character doesn’t mean everything is bad. I like Twilight and think that she is a good character but I also think that there are a lot of things wrong with her character. I’m slightly less on the good side with Glimmy but I can recognize there are both good and bad things. If you have your reasons to be convinced that Glimmy is perfect as a character then it must be difficult to accept that there are people who don’t like her but they have their reasons, too and probably want to share them. Now, I would say the same to the other side of the argument as well. Just saying.
