You can’t base the vehicle preference of the entire country of Equestria on two wagons.
We see character growth, but I mean actual chronology. There are lots of little callbacks, but they’re always ambiguous enough to not suggest an actual timeline. I do think a timeline would help though, as it could quantify the emotional growth of the characters, which is certainly happening, but often seems to be going all over the place.
It’s like Simpsons continuity, where they keep watch on character growth but time doesn’t actually pass and everything takes backseat to a joke.

Really? I’ve always seen continuity as the show’s greatest weakness, though I do feel they handle it in a damage minimizing way. They know no shits are given about continuity, and most episodes are written accordingly.
