So either Skystar was always a hippo and that’s why she’s called Skystar, or just wanted legs to join on the journey.

I think that’s the point - the characters behind them aren’t supposed to be in the (literal and figurative) limelight in this shot.
It looks jarring compared to the rest of the characters
Then again, I’m curious why they didn’t try to animate it for the classic flat 1.85:1 ratio. (Is 2.35:1 now a requirement for every huge movie now or something? )
