^Like I said, Hasbro-worship. It appears on a card and you consider it to be “official”; nevermind that no-one may ever think of that printed card again, or that the nickname was adopted from the fandom.

No. Thanks to the history of the fandom, some ponies are just going to have at least two tags:
 
Carrot Top/Golden Harvest  
Colgate/Minuette  
Doctor Whooves/Time Turner  
Amethyst Star/Sparkler
 
Please don’t alias any of these. It will cause nothing but a gigantic shitstorm. Even bigger than what episode 5 of season 3 will. Please don’t do it!

^That seems Hasbro-worship to me: “Carrot Top” is in no way an official nickname, just a shout out on a trading card targeted at bronies. If it wasn’t a fanon name, it would never have existed on the trading card either.
 
Sparkler became Sparkler because her cutie mark matched the G2 pony by the way; naming ponies after the previous-gen counterparts being one of the naming methods in the early brony days. (There are a handful of other BG ponies who got the same fanon treatment, the difference is that Sparkler was the one to become a prominent pony due to Stuff.)

Ahem, “Sparkler” is the canon name of the Generation 1 pony in which Rarity was based on…

I’d think it’d make the most sense for ponies with more than one name to just each have their names all aliased to their most official name; that’d save tag space (which I recall hearing takes up disk space) and help ensure that the same images can be found and/or filtered no matter which name a person decides to use.

Problem is lots of people refer to that blue unicorn with an hourglass as ‘Colgate’ so it makes more sense to add both names onto images than just alienating those who call her Colate and being like ‘hurr, she is MINUETTE you dummy’

“Carrot Top” became official in the trading cards, as Golden Harvest’s in-universe nickname; the “carrot top” tag just needs to be aliased to or associated with the “golden harvest” tag.
 
I’ve actually been meaning to bring “Colgate” up; the “colgate” tag could serve a useful purpose as a tag for images involving the Colgate brand and/or Colgate products, instead of just being an unnecessary additional tag for images involving Minuette.

@The Smiling Pony: Not on the G4 show, but even if G1 Sparkler doesn’t count, there’s technically a G4 Sparkler in concept art (from before she was developed into G4 Rarity).

As far as names go, Colgate and Carrot Top are still being used, despite how they’ll never become official.

As far as I’m aware there is no other pony that’s appeared on the show that has the name Sparkler, either in canon, toy-canon or fanon. If there is, please provide more information.

@Starly: This pony is officially named Amethyst Star, and a pony other than this one is officially named Sparkler, so the “sparkler” tag belongs to that other one, not this pony.

It’s been happening since the days of ponibooru. There isn’t much we can do except fight over it like children.

Again a BG pony removes the name ‘sparkler’ from these images. WHY? Just to be a dick?
