Discord’s reformation was necessary eventually cause his personality was needed for a neutral character, like Q from Star Trek. People still say they rushed his reformation, and most people still agree they would of liked villain Discord around for a little while longer, but again, Q. Neutrality, with a little favoritism, was kind of his fate from the getgo after he stopped being angry at Celestia.
I’ve never met a single person declare making Twilight a princess a “really good” idea in retrospect. Mostly because the show hasn’t benefited from it at all as of yet, its just been ‘there’ to write around. Time didn’t make alicorn Twilight a good idea, it just made it a constant concept. Neither good nor bad. Being the protege of the princess of the entire world made her being a princess completely superfluous. Its the superfluity that still makes people scratch their heads on all the badly written Twilicorn storylines and think ‘why bother?’
A concept doesn’t have to be bad to make more problems then boons. (although, it does make it easier to call that something a bad idea. Bad is subjective, but if enough people think it, well….)
On Flurry Heart, she turns all the preparation and audience convincing that you need to earn alicorn and princesshood, that Twilight achieved that, and threw it out the door because Hasbro wanted a new princess. Plus pictures like above make us wonder if the writers simply don’t care about quality.
The decision with Discord was different. It didn’t really show much negative sides besides some wasted potential until quite some time: Discord started getting possessive of Fluttershy, making him sort of a ‘dirty old man’ but never really being out loud about it, but meaning his nigh invincible power is always there if Fluttershy’s group is in a real bind. Another safety net that removes drama and tension. Their solution? The most op throne ever. If Chrysalis used magic to quickly teleport the princesses to her throne room, or even a few meters within the badlands, she would of won any war with Equestria easily.
Hasbro doesn’t just make ‘good decisions that scare us’. You are not a sheep, Minus. You CAN think for yourself. And in my experiance, good decisions do not need ‘damage control’
Personally? Not sure how you take a thousand murderous and violent changelings be peaceful buggers overnight, do you? Ignoring whether its a good decision or a bad decision, it just doesn’t sound like good or sane writing. Plus it ignores the fact that most of Chrysalis’ advance agents they showed us weren’t just soldiers doing their job, but sincere sadists.
….
Maybe a better example is necessary. Let’s try EG1’s Sunset Shimmer. Overall, the movie EG1 is crap and everybody knows it, especially the EG fans. But the ideas introduced behind Sunset had potential, and instead of complaints after the second movie, there was mostly thunderous applause. Sunset Shimmer was utilized to her fullest potential regardless of how badly the concept was introduced in the first movie. Twilicorn (and Flurry Heart) didn’t get that treatment the second, third or fourth time it was put on display. The concepts were tolerated instead of celebrated.
We’re bronies. We can tolerate a few flaws in the MLP writing. But with Sunset, we didn’t have to. The writing was good.
Alicorn Twilight will still be complained about long after the new changlings are accepted. This is more akin to Discord’s reform. A good decision that simply scared us. Give us some time.
Said most vocal people also are a majority of changeling fans. They pretty much killed off a vast majority of reasons why people even liked them in the first place.
@ObliviaTheChangeling
I disagree about the changelings transformation being something’s not worthy complaining about but I agree they they’re going to ruin the complaint is completely overblown. I highly doubt this would kill the show.
The Changelings turned good and only changed their appearance afterwards, so, the only real change is still just the appearance. And yes, they DO still need love, they just learned to generate their own love so that they no longer have to feed on others. And since Thorax took over, they still have a leader. They just lost the hive mind and became individuals and their new designs show as much, as each of them has their own color scheme rather than all of them looking exactly the same.
The Twilicorn thing may have been big at first, but it was never treated as much of a big deal, as it was still just Twilight, just with wings. Same goes for the Changelings, they’re still Changelings, just with a different design to show they’re no longer monstrous, hive-minded parasites.
Disliking it is no excuse to go all “They’re different and they’ve ruined the whole show”, which is something I tend to hear a LOT around here. They can dislike it, but there’s nothing they can do, so, again, all they can do is just accept it and move on. There’s no point in constantly complaining about Hasbro’s decissions, as no amount of complaining will suddenly make Hasbro change their mind and retcon the entire finale.
So they are still evil, needing love, and Chrysalis still leads them?
Where can I see your version of the finale, it sounds slightly better.
And I don’t know where you were during Twilicorn, but it was anything but unnoticeable. Flurry Heart, maybe, because we’ve become that jaded about this show’s lore, but not Twilicorn.
And maybe people hate because they don’t like it?
I’ve got no problem with people talking about it. I’ve got a problem with people complaining about it with “Oh no, they’ve got a new design, they’re all terrible now”. Everyone seems to treat the whole re-design as if it ruins the entire show (much like how everyone reacted to the Twilicorn and Flurry Heart drama), despite the fact that their physical appearance is the only real change. I see the re-design as an improvement, as they went from a hive where there’s no individuality to a group of individuals with distinctive features.
Really, people complain about the new designs as if they ruin the entire show. With the Twilicorn and Flurry Heart changes, the drama didn’t last long and was barely noticable. Right now, it seems more like people are hating just to hate, rather than just accept it and move on.
That’s not a good thing at all.
and are you seriously surprised anyone is still talking about the last big event that happened? How did it suddenly become no big deal?
It seems rather subdued compared to the Twilicorngate (or even the drama stirred by Starlight’s “hasty” redemption last season). I understand how such a change might upset some, but really, the most vocal people about it seem to be those who are merely looking for a reason to complain.

I find the Changeling AND Flurry to be abominations. But that is MY PERSONAL OPINION.
