I don’t know, I like Jay Fosgitt’s art to, and this cover is both adorable and hilarious.  
Plus, it’s kinda nice to see an artist for the comic with a more distinct style for a change of pace, and I like the cartoony-yet-cute look. It does kinda suit MLP.

What bothers me most about this cover in a ‘canon’ sense is that those foals look far too young to have cutie marks :)

Most people who like the show and have read the comics will at least say that there’s some issues worth reading and keeping, and I think a solid majority will say that most of the stories are good. They are canon in the sense that they’re using the same characters and settings as the show, and Hasbro and DHX check to make sure the comics don’t stray too far from what’s going on in the show. However, outside of possibly little bits and pieces being referenced in the show, nothing in the comics will affect the show, so if that’s what’s important to you, you’re out of luck.
