Nifty concept. Seems to put serious reproductive pressure on queens, but then so does the termite ovipositor-derived speculative art that pops up now & again.
Personally, I see changelings as lumps of emotionally reactive ooze in crunchy chitin coatings, bridging the gap between corporeal and spiritual life. (Windigoes are an example of the latter.) Queens can condense that ooze into heartstones, the crystalline core that is a changeling’s only vital organ. Given time and love, everything else can regenerate.
Yeah, I took the whole “feed on love” thing and ran with it.
Since they’re certainly not as mentally automated as true arthropods, I can buy ’lings being essentially another pony-type with funky chitin coating, oviparity & a few viscous fluid-related specialties. Certainly no stranger than pegasi constructing cities out of water vapor. And yeah, the fan-community could lean on popular consensus a bit less.
That’s an interesting take, though in my headcanon, which this is based on (I had it commissioned), the changelings do essentially have a pony/human-like society and aren’t social insects. I know the popular interpretation is of them as a hive society and if that’s what people like, that’s fine, my interpretation is just of them being more equine than insect.
@FanOfMostEverything
Thank you. Really, my only big deal with the Hive fanon is that pretty much EVERYBODY DOES IT, to the point it seems few are willing to try anything different. I always welcome various different interpretations.
Well, social insects that spend a good chunk of their time mimicking & parasitizing anthropomorphized equines. Sundry hives’ cultures might’ve absorbed plenty from ponykind besides their ambient emotions.
Which is over 3 times the resolution and isn’t an upscale. This is standard procedure when you’re uploading an actual higher res pic. Already reported the old one as a dupe of this one.
still the same image
You might want to get your eyes checked and take a look at the resolution.
@Lawful Girly
My bad, I didn’t noticed.
They are. Tagged.
I think as a changeling they’d be called nymphs.
