Dude, calm the fuck down. You speak of realism, but your avatar features a character with a sword in their fucking mouth. What the fuck do they plan to do with that?

@epicplatypus don’t listen to this neck bearded kid. Your art is you bro. Do you and keep up doing what you like with your art. Looks cool to me and carry on. All that good jazz.

I am
  1. They are wearing fatigues and flak vests; RD is enhanced with cybernetics. New technologies never seen before timeline. Implied high-tech and wartime R&D.
  2. Soarin’ doesn’t have any visible/obvious injuries or wounds. Impossible to tell.
  3. Same applies to Spitfire. Impossible to tell.
If you’re letting the audience fill such huge gaps without knowing yourself, that’s lazy craftsmanship and you’re capable of much more than this. However, you’re so convinced that you can do no wrong, that you blind yourself to criticism and any tips that may be offered. Keep doing this and you’ll never improve.

Here I’ll break it down Barney style so even you can understand it.
1- they are wearing the same style outfits from the crystal war timeline. So that means they are at war!
2- Soarin is clearly unconscious and falling to his death… So he probably got hit by something! Omg!!!
3- spitfire is diving to save him. Her goggles are cracked do that also indicates they were in some sort of combat.
Sometimes it’s better to leave things to the imagination of the viewer. Let them make their own conclusions.

No, I want you to use fanart to explain what’s going on, especially in a narrative piece such as this. I can understand wanting to make something cool, but you’re ignoring a lot of details.

It’s not a matter whether the show featured firearms or not, but this is clearly a grimdark alternate reality and this is one of the few exceptions where guns would be welcome. But alright, let’s get back to the topic at hand. For the sake of argument, let’s say they’re issued a sword, but nothing else makes any sense. Why is/was his sword unsheathed? Shouldn’t it remain sheathed until ready? Where is his sheath? Was he in combat? If he was wielding it in flight, why isn’t Spitfire holding hers? Was he shot down? Are there enemy pegasi? Are there anti-air emplacements?

My biggest problem with the sword is that the Crystal War pegasi are wearing modern flight helmets and flight suits. Unless it’s dress uniform, medieval weaponry seem really out-of-place. Personally, I think a submachine gun or tactical machine-pistol is a better fit for aerial shock troops. A sword might work for Batponies, since they also sport the medieval motif, just not winged paratroopers.

Practicality wise- A sword makes sense
Please show me 1 gun in the show, i’d love to see it.
I limited myself to what the show gave me? No, I have the artistic freedom to choose to do what I want with my drawings. There’s no swords in the show as far as I can remember. I THINK there’s an axe in the show… but I can’t remember it right now but there sure as hell isn’t any war axe.
I’ve drawn ponies with guns and lasers and all kinds of shit. For this piece, I chose swords because that’s what I believe the pegasi would use.
As I said, I’m used to shitty comments. I’m used to hardcore criticism. But your comment offered no constructive criticism or any depth or weight to it at all.

Clearly, someone’s salty about wanting comments on their drawings. You got one, but it wasn’t good enough for you. Your military experience and martial prowess mean dick if you’re going to be this bitter about some criticism. I also have four years of military service and close combat skills; you’re not a special snowflake.

I was talking about practicality, not realism. If want to talk about infantry equipment, fine. The show had their ground troops equipped with plate armour and spears. This implies ponies are at least capable of smithing and forging. However, RD’s flight suit and prosthetic wing implies they’re also capable of advanced engineering and cybernetics. Their technological level is whatever we want it to be at this point. Spears, swords, guns, and lasers. Cool.

Next, your Pegasi are anthropomorphic and have hands with fingers on them. They want a gun? They can have a gun. But you know, since there are spears, you have them a sword and axes instead. You could have been creative as fuck, but you limited yourself to what the show gave you. Your art is good, but your content is hardly outstanding. That’s why I call you newbie.

My icon a ponified Colonel Straken from Warhammer 40,000, perhaps the most ridiculously over-the-top war game imaginable. A shotgun and mouth-knife is hardly overstepping bounds.

“Newbie”
lol.. I’ve been on these sites since 2011… I was on Ponibooru long before it shut down, before calling someone a newbie, check the stickers next to their name. I know these comments arent for kissing my ass. But your comment was just stupid, it wasnt constructive, it wasn’t useful, it was shit, your opinions are shit. Think about the type of combat we saw in the episode. The pegasi were primarily being used as shock troopers, flying into a battle and beefing up the front lines suddenly. It would make sense that they would use a light weapon like a saber or a shortsword. Spears and bows would be useless in aerial combat because of the types of movements they do in the air. It would be IMPOSSIBLE to hit something with a bow and a spear would be large and cumbersome.
But hey, what do I know about tactics and swordfighting… I’m just some guy with years of fencing experience and 4 years as an intelligence analyst in the Army…
Btw, your avatar shows a pony with a shotgun… how does he plan on shooting that with hooves? How useful will that flimsy machete be with his limited neck mobility?

TLDR- it’s a picture of anthro flying ponies. Check your realism at the door. And if you plan on bitching about realism, make sure you practice what you preach.

Comments are for feedback, not just kissing your ass, newbie. If spent a few more hours thinking about the practicality of having a sword in aerial combat, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
