@Daneasaur
Omg. I’m round the artists house ( We’re friends irl. I forced her to make an account on here.) and she’s laughing her ass of. XD That really is just…wow. Beautiful.
And because Dubstepina is a party pooper and got mad and had it taken down, I went to the trouble of MS painting my own rarity egg to repost the joke.
This movie may be damaging if it isn’t regarded on the same grade as EQG. The aspect if the events having a canonical ripple effect on the tv series is what is worrying people the most.
If the movie is good, then this isn’t a bad thing. if the movie turns out to have some crippling flaws, then this is indeed worst case scenerio for most of the fans.
@CMC Scootaloo
They were smart to reveal the characters when they did. In fact, it was a good thing ALL the new characters were revealed that early. I think the fandom likes them now.
You missed the “Capper Furry Drama”. The movie is already tearing up the fandom.
But that’s good, actually. Better now than later. It was a very smart move of Hasbro to let Capper getting revealed now, not as surprise in the cinema.
That way, people can get used to him before the movie arrives.
@LunaLover20
As I said here, on this image >>1364735 (not going to type that all out again) it’s a li’l too late for that. We’re more divided then the Sonic fanbase.
@LunaLover20
Honestly, a Sea serpent/snake wouldn’t be very original either. (But it’d be uglier, I say. I think I prefer the “Flounder rip-off” look.) Plus honestly we don’t even know what it looks like officially, (Toys never look as good as the actual show.) I also have a feeling much like the “Rainbow Power” forms, (which also upset some, especially those who didn’t realize they were temporary forms) Pufferfish Spike isn’t going to be the form we see him in for most of the movie. So you’ll only have to put up with it for like 10 or 20 minutes tops for all we know.
You guys might be overreacting a li’l over something that’s probably not going to have a big impact on the movie. Honestly, it seems like the people who make the show can’t do anything with Spike without making people lose their schmitz. I like Spike too, but it almost makes me wish he wasn’t in the movie at all, if it’s going to create this much controversy.
To be fair, a puffer fish basically IS “a head with a couple small fins”.
A pufferfish is also covered in spines, aka “spikes”. It’s a pun, and a damn clever one considering the target audience.
I don’t have a problem with the writers/artists transforming Spike into animals when the Mane Six get transformed into humans/merponies/whathaveyou. Yes, it kind of implies he’s more of a pet than a person, but then, that’s been Spike’s role since G1. As long as he gets good lines and stays the voice of reason, he’ll be fine.
@Beau Skunky
The reason it’s triggering people so much is that it looks unoriginal! Say whatever you want! It doesn’t change the fact that it looks like nothing more then a head with fins! The entire design is crappy! And we’ve never seen what a baby sea serpent looks like since the only sea serpent in the entire show is an adult! You don’t know whether it wouldn’t fit Spike! They may have been able to come up with a baby sea serpent design for Spike!
Plus, he looks like a ripoff of Flounder from The Little Mermaid! I mean, tiny fish sidekick that accompanies a mermaid or a group of sea ponies. Sound familiar to anyone?
And I would take freaky and original over stupid and unoriginal any day of the week!
@Beau Skunky
It’s difficult to not jump to the conclusion of spike being the buttmonkey when he often is treated as such when he’s not being ignored. Yes he has his good moments, but then he gets pats on the back for really silly things; such as saving the crystal empire when he didn’t do anything more than anyone else other than fall off the castle and require cadance to catch him, followed by the equestria games that was a catastrophe waiting to happen (who plays archery with a rocket launcher? I mean, really). He got a good episode in gauntlet of fire as the choices made by him and the situation were all up to him, he wasn’t a buttmonkey for standing up or making a decision, and then again in times are a changeling.
Spike however has gotten the short end of the stick again in the other media, such as him being a dog when everyone wanted to see him as the “younger brother” to twilight (as is basically his character) but him being a dog made people blow a gasket because a dog is a pet and Spike is more than just some pet that “does tricks”.
Yes, Spike is a dragon and so pony magic shouldn’t work the same way on him. In this case it’s an aquatic creature so he shouldn’t be a seahorse. He can’t become some mythical creature either without stealing the limelight or, as stated, becoming grotesque.
@Daneasaur
I think that meme/gag was invented by fans, and was never regarded in the show. Still, crab Spike would’ve been funny. Still a pufferfish isn’t that bad, I don’t know why it’s “triggering” people so much. Frankly, I would’ve disliked the popular “sea snake/serpent” choice more, as to me it’d make Spike a bit freaky.
You’d think fans would be fine with him at least still looking like himself as a Pufferfish. Give how much they hated him being a dog, and looking a li’l different. I think it’s impossible to please the fans with Spike now honestly.
@CMC Scootaloo
Wasn’t really aware he did any of that out of hate. Though, I probably didn’t see that one, or recall seeing him say he hated any characters.
I recall, he had Derpy turned into roadkill/dogfood before, but he doesn’t really hate Derpy. (That I know of.)
@neo4812
That is the exact reason. The whole Rarity vs Crab situation would be hilarious if Spike was a crab. I just am at a loss at how many joking “horror” and “tragic” tales would take place because of it.
To be fair, a puffer fish basically IS “a head with a couple small fins”.
It’s an odd choice, but they probably wanted to pick a fish that had spines but wasn’t nightmare fuel, ugly, or something overly gorgeous, thus eliminating the stonefish and lionfish.
But also there is the idea of keeping him smaller than the rest of the cast, and also showing that magic doesn’t work on him the same as it works on the ponies.
… I am suddenly aware of how much of a bizarre debacle the fandom would have if he was a crab…
@NewbieMcNuggets
I’m glad she got a kick out of it! I only made it because I personally found it to be outlandishly funny. Glad someone else did too ^^
Then you haven’t seen his worst “art” yet. I’m not talking about pictures like the one where Rainbow Dash has burnt down the weather factory so that Tank can stay with her. He is drawing actual hate art for the ponies he hates.
He did a whole effort to draw an incredibly cruel comic where Scootaloo learns to fly with Rainbow Dash’s help, then gets her cutie mark for that, followed by her getting sucked into the turbine of a crashing airship that completely rips her apart while Dash watches in shock and gets soaked in her blood.
And on another picture he drew the ponysonas of him and his friend brutally being up Scootaloo and Twilight and almost killing them.
All because he hates Twilight and Scootaloo, as he admits in the picture’s description.
Sketchywolf isn’t much less mental.
“like that weirdo kid who drew pictures torturing the show staff like pony Meghan, for their supposed “treatment” of Spike”
What? We have a psycho in the fandom that does things like this?! That’s worse than what Sketchywolf-13 does.
When you think you can’t get more disgusted…..
“Twilight looked to be about the CMC’s age when he hatched. So he could be 8-10 years younger then her.”
Twilight was about six years old when this happened, indicated by her appearance and behavior. When she moved to Ponyville with Spike, she appeared to be about twenty.
Which made Spike 14 years old at this time and he is even older now. Also indicated by the facts that he looked vastly different when he hatched and that his maturity does not fit the one of a child.
He is almost a young adult by now.
@gingerninja666
I know that, I’m just saying what I think and it’s okay if people ignore it or disagree if they have a reason to. I don’t know everything.
@MoonaKnight13
I don’t think I’ve ever heard that confirmed officially in the show, or any material. You can’t just rely on everything you “hear.”
Plus, we’ve seen teenage dragons, and Spike isn’t quite the same as one. Twilight looked to be about the CMC’s age when he hatched. So he could be 8-10 years younger then her.
It’s because Spike is a supporting character. He’s not someone who can carry episodes all that well with his own flaws. His strength is generally in being a snarky voice of reason to Twilight and her support pillar in times of strife.
It’s similar to Applejack in a way. Applejack can’t generally carry an episode. She’s at her best either in a supporting role or acting opposite someone.
And because Dubstepina is a party pooper and got mad and had it taken down, I went to the trouble of MS painting my own rarity egg to repost the joke.
If the movie is good, then this isn’t a bad thing. if the movie turns out to have some crippling flaws, then this is indeed worst case scenerio for most of the fans.
I believe that is where the main problem lies.
What? Fan work won people over? Well, yeah, that did help.
It wouldn’t be the first time that fanwork wins people over for a certain character. That might as well happen here too.
They were smart to reveal the characters when they did. In fact, it was a good thing ALL the new characters were revealed that early. I think the fandom likes them now.

If just this toy creates this much controversy, then this movie is gonna tear up the fandom.

Well then, that’s just more of a reason why a pufferfish design shouldn’t have been done!
