That’s how I figure it. With a footnote that there are a lot of ways to die in Equestria. You think Cadance and Twilight are the only other alicorns Celestia’s seen in the past thousand years? Nah, she goes through ’em as quickly as she goes through students.
I tend to think of them as being similar to the elves in Lord of the Rings. They can die of other causes, but they pretty much stop aging once they became adults.
My headcannon is that they have lifespans in the dozens of millenia, but they will die eventually.

Yeah, I don’t really care for that theory. I think that they’re naturally ageless, since they are pretty much gods.
