Eyup, really. The part where they discuss the guns, they mention that it’s the best gun they can adapt to their needs, but “best from what there is”, not “best there could be”. The gun is small, has relatively low recoil and to fire it they only need to hold it like in this picture and think of something to pull the trigger with (that part is missing from this picture, sadly). Of course, there’s no noticeable accuracy, and they complain about it when they train (except for cheating Joe, of course, who can hold the gun, but has negative skillpoints in “shooting” skill)

Haven’t read it in ages, and ditched the sequels (they just weren’t for me)
 
Not sure if the story was edited since or just a shitty memory on my part, but I remember when they were first talked about they were very vaguely described as the best guns ever, with low recoil, being mostly hoof friendly already, and they only had to slightly modify them for them to use properly. I do remember the whole accuracy description of that, and I had a problem with that in general too (one of the few things I’d bring up in the PaP discord chat was guns. The ‘low recoil’ applies to a trained operator with actual hands operating the firearm. Being an untrained civie, and being unable to properly shoulder the weapon, recoil and accuracy would be noticeably bad. But thats just my opinion)

Writing a terrible spin-off from this story, I was going to address these concerns as well as the whole ‘guns are really friggen loud/ponies have better hearing than humans’ aspect, but am not a good writer and dropped my story. C’est la vie.

Oh, trained earth pony is well armed. But imagine the one that is not trained at all (and actually don’t even know what “earth pony” means), like the one in the picture. ;)

With the natural strength commonly exhibited by earth ponies, I’d shudder to call them ‘poorly armed’. Then again, I suppose you have a point, something is usually better than nothing. Especially when that something has a cyclic rate of 900 RPM.

Even point-shooting has its uses, especially for someone as poorly naturally armed as an untrained earth pony. ;)

If its that inaccurate, why bother? Anything beyond point-shooting is going to be nigh on useless…

I have a feeling that you’ve skipped parts of the story. The modification is explained and it is sound - if you would try to fire the gun modified that way with a balled fist, you would be able to do it (of course, the accuracy won’t be anything above “in general direction of the target”, but it’s what they say about their method in the story itself).

One of the (admittedly many) problems I had with the story, just the whole ‘oh yeah we modified some guns slightly because they were already hoof-friendly’
