What you described sounds like the MGM version, where an angel came down and carried her soul off after she died. Re-airings of it actually edited out the ending, the wusses.
All other versions that I’ve seen, Toei, Disney(yes, Disney did a version of this, meant for a Fantasia movie that got scrapped), etc. it’s her grandmother that carries her soul off when she dies.
That’s a Christmas movie, right? A homeless child dies and an angel takes her to Heaven? One of my favorite books as a child. Not because it made me discover I was a foot fetishist. <w<
