I had a concept just like this in 2019, except it involves levitation. Called it translevitation 😌☄️

It’s just that they can’t eat so they draw in ambient thermal energy from the physical plane for the energy to operate their ghostly self separated in one of the higher dimensions of space and operating on an adjacent but disconnected 3-brane, only interacting via hitherto undiscovered field interactions that allow them to sap thermal energy from a pocket of space.

Probably it’s more that the chills have been around since before ghosts were a thing, and then ghosts were used to explain them :P  
So ghosts have been sending chills up people’s spines since before anyone even knew the concept of incorporeal beings (or the concept of the wheel for that matter)

Ghosts giving you “the chills” when they pass through you has been a thing since almost forever. It’s a standard feature of them. Nice to see the animators remembered their lore here.
