By that time I think it’s pretty fair to assume that the pegasi and earth ponies have become more interconnected. No idea where the pegasi were for the Princess Promenade or the Runaway Rainbow though. Probably off eating ice cream or something.

Well, they do at the end of the one where they sing “Wish You Were Here”, don’t they? Rainbow Dash goes and visits them, and then they all pile into the Crystal Carriage and show up in Ponyville.
 
But yeah, it seems like all the settlements are segregated and provincial. The unicorns live in Unicornia, the Breezies only leave Breezy Blossom once a year, the pegasi barely know anything exists outside of Butterfly Island.
 
So…given that, what exactly is Thistle Whistle doing in the Ponyville hot air balloon parking lot in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve?

It’s kind of strange, really. In Dancing in the Clouds, Star Catcher almost appeared to have an otherworldly vibe about her, with the whole making wishes come true and telling Sky Wishes that the most important wishes are the ones made for the sake of others. That said, I can’t explain away Friends are Never Far Away’s plot, since it at least appears to be a direct sequel to Dancing - which I’m guessing they only threw away that little detail because they wanted to put pegasi in Ponyville, I don’t know. It’s not like the unicorns ever visit Ponyville except for Rarity, and that was accidental.

So here’s the thing about Sky Wishes. Her big thing was she’d make wishes, right, and they’d come true? But it turns out it was Star Catcher behind the scenes all along. So right after they finally meet, she ends up introducing all her friends to the pegasus ponies, and Star Catcher isn’t her secret anymore. So doesn’t that make Sky Wishes kind of…obsolete?
