The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

^ Yes, that’s obvious. I suppose I’ll have to clarify something I thought was kind of of a given. I never said that Trixie’s act was wrong.

She humiliated ponies who knowingly stepped on stage to challenge her, and while I will maintain that the bulk of her act was her boasting/showing up those who challenged her that’s not against any law that I know of. I think she’s a braggart, a bit of a bully, a liar, and above all an entirely uninteresting retread of a character archetype of the charlatan performer but this entire argument started because I said that Dash flew up to ask her why she was bragging, which I feel is justified.

oh hey, this is still going on

@candrew
I’m guessing his point is that in the pony world her actions on stage weren’t seen in much of a negative light if everyone enjoyed them so much; it could make her think that she wasn’t doing anything wrong, given all the positive reinforcement from the crowd.

Or something, I guess.

^ Um yeah, that’s very obvious. They also enjoyed the tricks performed by Applejack, Rainbow, and Rarity. What’s your point?

You know if you actually pay attention to the episode you’ll find that everyone in the audience except for the main six was thoroughly enjoying the show. ESPECIALLY the part where the “protagonists” got their asses thoroughly handed to them.

^ Oh, my apologizes, I didn’t realize there was more than one of you guys in that discussion. I probably should have realized that possibility though given that Trixie’s fanbase is huge.

For simple clarification purposes, at least one of the anons you were discussing with wasn’t me.

I kind of wish this board IDed the same anons on a thread with a number or something.

Applejack is competitive and never was one to back away from a challenge so she would step up if called out. While she would call out unfair practice like using wings during a contest, she most likely went along with Trixie as contest to showcase talent. While humiliated, her pride is not easily broken like RD, she just hides it a bit better.

^ That’s a very interesting thought and one I had not considered before. It especially works well because even until the very end, neither Trixie nor Peck would admit that they were wrong, though granted causing an explosion and releasing ghosts is a greater problem than simply refusing to admit that someone is better at magic than you are. The only real problem I see with this analogy is that it was Applejack who was the first to challenge Trixie, and that was only after Trixie picked her out of the audience.

Had a discussion about this on a Ghostbusters movie thread:

Walter Peck, an inspector for the EPA, wanted to see the containment unit at GB HQ, Peter Venkman being well Peter, wanted to jerk around with the authoritative figure and gave him the run around. The question is although Peter is the protagonist of the story and Walter is the anatagonist, Walter was right to be concerned about a nuclear powered grid in the middle of New York while Clashing egos with Venkman which made him go get a warrant to shut them down. Peck took it too far due to a bruised ego, which made Peter come out as the better man.

Hence when you put two ego-driven characters: Trixie and RD (both are boastful and attention hogs) there will be clashing, we were already given that RD is with her friends so we know they will stand by her. AJ, while a farm workhorse, is a performer on rodeos but more modest than RD and Rarity, Rarity while attention staved is not very confrontation until someone makes a remark on her appearance which she takes pride of, RD admittedly is a hot blooded, hot head who does rush into things without considering the consequences. She would be the first to be confrontation when there is a question on who is the best. Playing to RD’s ego played into Trixie to upgrade her own. Walking away an ignoring a braggart is the best way to avoid conflict. It’s a strong guy stepping to another strong guy bragging he could take anyone in the room. One could step to the challenge and lose, or one could ignore the guy and never gave him the time of day.

@BGP

Um, yeah, there is plenty to suggest that she meant to start something. That was the entire point of the exchange. Notice how she performed only one, rather small, piece of magic before the challenge? Notice how all of her magic during the challenge was not so much out showing as it was designed to humiliate? Trixie’s ego is clear from the get go, and it is obvious that she mainly feeds it by making others look stupid.

And yes I may have slightly paraphrased, but calling them ignorant and talking about how they should realize she is the most magical unicorn in the country is not that different.

Dash flew up to her and asked her what made her special, which is an entirely fair question by the way, and when it was obvious that they weren’t buying it, she challenged them.
Background Pony #12C3
@candrew “You all suck and I’m better than you”? Yeah, that’s a pretty bad exagerration on your part. Her “challenge” was just stage rhetoric, there is nothing to suggest she meant to start anything, and in fact she didn’t.

Listen, I get that you don’t like Trixie, but she was in no way, shape, or form the instigater of the fight and trying to argue that her spiel was overblown isn’t going to change THAT.
candrew
The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

For ponies to come up on stage so she could humiliate them? Since that’s her act I’m going to have to say that she kind of was. Carson generally doesn’t start off with ‘you all suck and I’m better than you.’

Listen, I get that you like Trixie, and that is perfectly fine, though it makes no sense to me. She was in no way, shape, or form the victim during Boast Busters and trying to argue that Dash was rude to her first isn’t going to change that fact.
Background Pony #42F0
Asking who booed her is justification for that? I’ll keep that in mind for when I head to a Jimmy Carr show or similar; I’ll just run into his face the instant he asks the audience something.

Also, “her entire plan”? That’s a bit close to “she was asking for it” territory.
candrew
The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

^ No, it became audience participation when Trixie asked them who was dumb enough to dare challenge her when she got booed, which was probably her entire plan since before that point she had done exactly one piece of actual magic.
Background Pony #42F0
@candrew

It turned into an audience participatory show only after she started accepting individual challenges; until then no one had any right to get on stage, much less in such a confrontational manner. Rainbow could’ve called her out from where she stood, or, you know, just left; it’s not like she payed anything to be there.

@BGP

Yeah, she flew up there, after Trixie asked who was stupid enough to doubt her entirely unproven awesomeness. When your entire act is based on audience participation, you know since her entire act is humiliating anyone who calls her out on her boasting, its kind of expected that ponies go up on stage.
Background Pony #3A68
@candrew, yeah ’cause Dash herself is totally in a position to criticize others for having a high opinion of themselves

@Merovech, most street performers ask for payment during and after the show, after the get the crowd interested in the show.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Look, performer or not, this is Trixie’s master plan:
Step 1, Be a total bitch
Step 2, ???
Step 3, Profit?
Seriously, she didn’t even try to sell any tickets or anything. All she did was show up and start talking smack. What gives?
Background Pony #42F0
“Rainbow Dash flew up to her to ask her why she thought she was better than everypony else. Which is kind of a fair question.”

Yeah, no. She got on her stage and went full aggro. I would like to see someone IRL dash onto the stage and get in the performer’s face mid-act, then try to justify it with “well, she was saying some crazy things!”.
Trickquestion
The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

She’s not even really that bad compared to other villains on the show.

God Tier: Discord and Nightmare Moon
A Tier: Queen Chyrsalis and the Changelings
B Tier: FlimFlam Brothers and all antagonist Dragons
C Tier: Trixie and Gilda
D Tier: Diamond Tiara, though based on the Gabby Gums episode, she could be at maximum B Tier if she aimed higher then picking on the CMC.

Rainbow Dash flew up to her to ask her why she thought she was better than everypony else. Which is kind of a fair question.

Trixie you’re no villain, you’re just a dull, uninteresting character. You are kind of a bitch though, even to your ‘fans’.
