It’s perfectly plausible, and generally more accepted, that Celestia and Luna were born alicorns. IMO the idea that they got their wings/horns later is pretty silly

I think the fandom is torn between the beliefs that celestia and luna were either born alicorns (which I believe may have been supported by a tweet from one of the shows writers) or like twilight earned their god hood and ascended into alicorns like cadence did,each has their own advantages and complexities but hopefully season 4 will shed a little light on this

I really love the the fanfic Paradise handles it. Luna and Celestia were born as Earth ponies, and they acquired their horns and wings as they adventure.
 
I only wish the story would update more frequently.
