it’s funny, because I’m starting to think there is only one kind of love. we pretend that eros is different from philia (for instance) because having babies is scary, and we want to feel like we are free from those carnal desires, when we enjoy a friend’s company or a good non-erotic book. but it’s just a bit of liquor and lust away from being “more than” friends. there are tons of sexual deities, all who have been terribly demonized and suppressed, so separating eros from agape sounds like part of that propaganda.
even the “instinctive” love a mother feels for her child, it’s still… desire. hard to resist kissing your child’s forehead, hard to resist another scoop of double fudge swirl, it’s just how neurons physically work. it’s true our brains get automatically programmed to love by a hormonal pregnancy and the sensations of birth, but assuming it’s categorically different from other love has… consequences, such as mothers who deny their interests, seeking only to love their child, giving the kid a horrible guilt complex as they grow up.
As couples go, they were acting far less romantic than, say, Lyrabon or Startrix.
The only “evidence” that the two’s relationship is more than sisterly love/love for a friend is the writers speaking outside the episode.
They also live together on an apparently permanent basis and consider the other’s family their family. That isn’t evidence, but it is support. Their on-screen actions don’t independently prove the stated authorial intent, but they certainly don’t oppose it.
If they have been in a relationship for a long time, they’ve probably just moved past the point of romantic gestures obvious to others. They’re so familiar with each other, they pick up on much more subtle cues from one another and know heir meanings. They were no less overtly romantic than Mr. and Mrs. Cake usually are.
In southern states of America it is very common for children to call close family friends Aunt/Uncle. As she lives with her Aunt that would be considered close and would be called Aunt. It is also very common for women to get a roommate and would be considered more proper than them living alone in more conservative groups. Not saying they are/aren’t a couple, but there is noting that points to them being lesbians.
@Background Pony Number 17
If you ignore that Scootaloo calls These 2 and only These 2 aunt. It is either the honorific Miss, Mr., Mrs. for anyone else or the lack of honorifics entirely.
Combine that with the fact only aunt Holiday is sister to Scootaloo´s Father and live together we got a case for their couple Status.
What is the alternative That the sister and the Sister in Law are Living together? That is more unlikely than an older couple Living together that is out of the Honeymoon Phase of the releationship.
People in the shipping community tend to forget there are multiple definitions/forms of love. The whole “The Starlight I love” line was clearly sisterly love or love for a friend. Not all love is a romantic love
And the same thing could be said for Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty. As couples go, they were acting far less romantic than, say, Lyrabon or Startrix.
The only “evidence” that the two’s relationship is more than sisterly love/love for a friend is the writers speaking outside the episode. But that can be dismissed on the grounds that, if the writers meant what they said, they would’ve said it in-universe.
I don´t like shipping in General, but even if I would ship Starlight and Trixie. I would defend your Right to disagree with me. (Still the line is Canon. Your Argument against the romantic love interpretation is good enough for me)
@Kane
Everyone got the Right to disagree with me on Everything, but you better make sure you can explain your Position.
I have the Right to disagree with anyone on anything, but I better make sure I can explain my Position.
If you want we can even disagree about my very existence. conciliation not required

Canon IS everything that is in the work in Question.
And People have to build their headcanons around it.
And yes that can lead to disagrements. The best to do is to find as much evidence to support your case from a reliable scource. And the most reliable Thing we have is the work in Question because it is a constant.
It is the scientific Approach datasets and theories that can played against each other. You pull out Facts after another and Show how they together create a Picture/case for your side.
Or you could… I don´t know ignore all the data and be a flatearther.
I can defend my Point that Aunt Lofty and Holiday are a couple and you can go back to Twitter and beg your God for another sign.
Meanwhile I am waiting for the next few episodes if I can ADD more canon to my base.
@Backgroundpony
You realize statements like “The Starlight I love” could easily be viewed as the characters sharing a sisterly, not romantic, bond right?
Also, when nothing in Canon is said, The Word of God is all we have to go on.
The only reason people like you are upset is because it’s not a popular ship being said as Canon.
@TheRedBaronV2
Word of God: today he says they are a couple. tomorrow he is drunk and states the opposite. You got 2 words of got that contradict each other.
One egregious example of canon vs “Word of God” is J.K. Rowling
If the Author would have wanted to put it in it would be in. “Word of God” Dismissed
But the supplementary media states! Well, but it is not in the mainstory. B. and C. Canon Dismissed
Scootaloo has 2 aunts that live together, but only one of them is actually releated with her over her father. It is in the show. Episode12 Season 9. Look it up. Can not be dismissed out of Hand and they have to argue around it.
You realize I gave you the canon as a defense in the hand to argue FOR them to be a couple, right?
Even shippers know that if they can point to the show animation or lines like The Starlight I love they have a way better case because the people opposed to those ships have These canon/Facts they need to mold their headcanon around. And even if they find away around it as Long as they can not put other Canon/facts behind it. Their case is at best just as strong as yours.
So no “Word of God” is not all we have to go on.
And if you have to rely on it you got a Pretty bad case. (The bible says so, spoke the Pope. There is a reason it is called the Word of God trope)
I on the other Hand have a base (at least in my mother toungue and my customs).
You realize that there are gay couples irl just like that, right?
Also, word of God means everything because not only is it all we have to go on, it’s also the official statement of the people who worked on it. Therefore it is not hearsay.
Lesbian is as lesbian does. Based on their behavior in the show, there’s a stronger case for Starlight Glimmer/Trixie and Lyra/Bon Bon being lesbian couples than Aunt Holiday/Auntie Lofty.
@Backgroundpony
There’s a lot of difference between Marvel comics and 4th Gen My Little Pony. The books, comics and cartoon are far more contained and there isn’t a massive backlog. There is also no requirement to have read any of the comics or books to understand who Lofty and Holiday are, avoiding the greatest sin of cross media integration.
But I was responding to the assertion that it’s Mike Vogel’s headcannon, which it can’t be because he wrote the two books in which Holiday and Lofty appeared, as well as the episode, together with Nicole Dubuc. Together, they more or less created the characters, so they’d know if the characters are lesbian.
unless that one guy is big jim, in which case we must passionately defend his right to his show from those dastardly headcannoners. ♥

That is why I had to disclose my lack of Knowledge about American coustoms.
I will look at them as a couple because it just makes more sense to me.

ups sorry
even if I WOULD disagree.

I think you, but I must ask, which part?
Agreed.
@Backgroundpony
I read it.
And I will defend your Right to think so even if I would disagree.
I wonder if you actually read it and not inserted some boogy man into it.
I am on your side of the “Pro couple” discussion. I just dislike the use of Word of God.
Edited
I do acknowledge facts.
The facts, outside of word of God, still say they are a couple.
And People have to build their headcanons around it.

“created the characters, so they’d know”
That that Lofty and Holiday are going to die by falling rocks
that they have cancer
Exactly that is “word of God”, which to believe is the greatest sin of massmedia communication.
There’s a lot of difference between Marvel comics and 4th Gen My Little Pony. The books, comics and cartoon are far more contained and there isn’t a massive backlog. My ignorance About american/Canadian customs?
Yes, but I disclosed them.
