Considering the controversies prevalent in major sports, I wouldn’t rule the idea out that it was all a staged thing, just like you said. As a team manager and a coach, you wouldn’t want one of your top players to look like a wife / girlfriend beater. However, if that is the case then I have to take issue with the even more controversial concept of covering up for a wife-beater. Because that’s just sick.
Also, yeppers, that’s one half of it for sure. If I can find the other half in my folders I’ll post it =) .
Personally I wouldn’t be surprised if DeflateGate was started to draw attention away from the whole “domestic violence in the NFL”, considering the scrutiny the institution was under after that guy beat the s*** out of his girlfriend in an elevator (don’t remember his name, but I think he played for the Ravens). Probably not the case, but I’m not going to rule it out.
I could only find one half of the picture you mentioned, I can’t seem to find the “lights” part.

Also, yeah, I think we’re talking about the same Super Bowl. I just remember my boyfriend laughing his ass off as soon as the lights went out. Then I found that image a few days later. For me, it was pretty great.
DeflateGate is about the claim that the Patriots deflated the balls some before the game against the Colts in the semifinals, which was proven to be false. I’m not even a Patriots fan but it’s hilarious to watch the Seahawks and Colts fans ball their eyes out whenever the subject of football comes up.
I believe the game you are referring to is the 2013 Super Bowl between the 49ers (Jim Harbaugh) and the Ravens (John Harbaugh).

Also, I’ve watched the Super Bowl once, but it was either a year or two years back (and the only reason I watched it is because my boyfriend made me). The match that had the two brothers coaching opposite teams. The only reason I remember that one well is because I saw an image that had them arguing like this:
Coach 1: “Mom, he won’t let me have the ball!”
Coach 2: “MOM, HE TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF!”
The Colts are an American Football team. They were the ones the ponies were seen cheering for in a Super Bowl commercial this year.
The same team that cried about #DeflateGate when they got their tight ends handed to them by the NE Patriots.
If I followed sports at all, I’m sure I’d know what you mean.
