You mean This?

Wonder what the Jewel Wizard would look like redesigned in G4. Probably like the Storm King (whom also orginated from the G1 “comics”) he couldn’t be human anymore, so maybe he’d actually be made of jewels.

We can’t be surprised. This isn’t the first time Applejack straight-up killed someone. Remember that wizard in the cave with the crystal-eye ponies back in G1?

I doubt it, as some recent movies & animations still have plenty of edgy moments, and nightmare fuel too.

Heck, the new Mickey shorts are pretty edgy. (Which is pretty reminiscent of the old edgier 1930s &’40s shorts.)

and then someone adds some anime music…Attack on Titan or Don’t Lose Your Way for starters

This is true. Megaman is certainly flawed in that it has a boss like that. I agree. Yellow Devil is super cheap. But, my point is that Megaman didn’t have too many problems that kids weren’t willing to sit through. You have a point, though. Difficulty can be subjective too. Little flaws in a game like Fester’s Quest may frustrate a kid a lot. But, then, another kid enjoys it for what it is anyway.

I personally think it depends on how that difficulty is balanced. How fair it is. If I feel like I can beat it with what the game gives me, while also having reasonable punishment for mistakes, that’s good enough for me. I guess MM1 isn’t exactly the best example, because it is the first installment of a series that improved over what needed to be. Although people say the games got easier, they became less cheap. Instead of having a hard time with something for reasons that the player must play perfectly, exploit something, or even get lucky with to even progress.

A way a game is presented matters, in that regard too. Super Meat Boy is known to be a very hard game. People expect it when they decide to play it. Time changes our perspective, as well. Back then, you didn’t know how a game would be until you put it into a console. And, many times, I remember liking a game that someone would consider not that good. Although, personally, a lot of times I stop enjoying those kinds of games if I revisit them. Opinions change. Nowadays, you can figure out if you’ll like a game or not before you even consider buying. This can be applied to old games that we might have missed, as well.
