Something like this, I think, is the result of Spike finally realizing that he either doesn’t really love Rarity or can never have her and coming to the conclusion that Sweetie is actually a much better match for him.

When put that way, yeah it sounds cliche’d.  
Though Rarity’s shown that despite the whole high class thing, in the end she still puts her friends and their freelings first, even if it means losing face in front of high society ponies. If she rejects Spike, I doubt it’ll be because she preffers being “high class”. Not mentioning how Spike seems to be well connected afterall, so “low class boy” doesn’t sound precise either. He was born and raised in Canterlot, as well as assistant to royalty.

– “Low class” boy falls for “high class” girl.  
– Boy thinks girl is his true love; tries to woo her for all it’s worth.  
– Girl prefers being “high glass “ to being with boy and rejects him.  
– Girl’s much nicer younger sister reveals she’s had a crush on boy all along.  
– Boy ends up with his true love after all.

If not the same age, then I feel like Spike is at least far closer to Sweetie Belle’s age than he is to Rarity’s. And Sweetie Belle is becoming more like Rarity with every single episode this season, too.

I think it’s just ‘cuz it’s a toy ship - they’re kids, so it’s cute instead of romantic. Or it might be that the male being older is more acceptable than the opposite…

You’d have to mold Sweetie Belle’s personality quite a bit for her to be attractive to Spike. And she also doesn’t seem to be at that age yet where she has any interest in boys.

I’m just someone who’s genuinely curious, but what makes some of you like spikebelle?
 
It can’t be age, because we know there’s an age difference between spike, rarity and sweetie belle. Spike is obviously younger than rarity but older than sweetie bell (but we don’t know the age difference exactly) so it’s hard to tell who he’s closer to in age.
 
And regardless of who he ends up with, he’s still going to outlive them. The only difference is one is younger than the other. But what may seem like yrs to ponies, may be days to dragons.

I’m neutral to SweetieMash, but honestly it was just Jan’s OC fitted into an already conceived background colt from H&HD. It’s okay for a fanmade production, but wanting it to become canon is just way too much.

The only good thing to come from Buttongate is that it will hopefully put an end to SweetieMash.
