Wacker drive is named after Charles H. Wacker, the son of a German immigrant who moved to the US and started a family. So, like Fucker, Austria: blame the Germans, lol
EDIT - For some further context: Charles Wacker was a major proponent and figure in the Burnham Plan for Chicago, which sought to reshape the city in the very early 20th century after the work’s titular proponent Daniel Burnham proved himself at the Chicago World’s Faire. It was recognized at the time that Chicago needed a major face lift to support itself as a modern city moving forward, which resulted in the super ambitious plan (Burnham had also worked on plans for Washington, D.C., Cleveland, and San Francisco, and Manila and Baguio in the Philippines). While the Plan was not completed in its entirety, it did greatly remold central Chicago and named a street after him. One of the major success of the Plan was “reclaiming the lake front for the public” and declared that no one or no company should bar the public from the shores of Lake Michigan, and advocated and carried out large land reclamation projects to build whole new parks along the lake shore for public use.
