I thought Kevin became a good guy because of some dude from the Plumbers acknowledged and respected him while he was with Ben and then he got killed. Kevin’s experience with that guy and his death somehow convinced Kevin to become good.

MUCH LATER, they gave a proper explanations to all this BS, with Kevin: his alien race goes insane when they absorb energy from the living and he had an “ Obi Wan” friend during his crazy days who teach him to control his rage (i like any obi wan, he was killed).  
when Ben case it was some time travel BS, kid Ben was teleported with Teenager Ben, he didn’t trust in Kevin, after some battles he was send to his time with his memories of the travel erase but with a “memory leftover that will make him trust in Kevin even without knowing why”.

Hey…now that you mentioned…I was never a fan of Ben 10(at least not a big fan),but I did watch some of the episodes that featured Kevin.
 
Why was the reason he joined Ben and Gwen after they become teenagers? I personally thought that was strange.
