I always just assumed they tag teamed Celestia enough so that absolutely anything would go….
 
Celestia gets sexed by a hot married couple, they get their youngest an adopted alicorn niece as a babysitter(this is mostly a joke but I’m still trying to figure out how absurdly coincidental that is), their son becomes captain of the guard, and Twilight gets a cutie mark that was on the Tree of Harmony.
 
And, to top it all off, Celestia does all the parenting and teaching and they do nothing. Even in the S6 premier they are 5 feet away from each other and Twilight and her parents don’t even talk to each other!! _
 
I’m not saying not all of that stuff wasn’t earned, Shining’s Shield magic is his own and Twilight’s big brain was all her own even before the cutie mark. But the rest of the stuff? One has to question the source of Twilight’s parents lack of parenting, not just Celestia’s questionable overinvolvement, and how it fits into place.
 
Most main characters with already onscreen parents….talk to their parents after six seasons right?
 
That’s not a crazy assumption is it? Because to me, the opposite sounds completely and utterly insane.
