I think this will be one of those series where the characters never significantly age, though. Fans often try to determine how much time has passed up until season 4 but there’s no concrete evidence. I’m rather certain the writers haven’t agreed on some sort of timeline either, they just write for whatever plot element they’re responsible for that episode. In other words, I think by the end they’ll all be roughly the same age, the CMC still won’t have their cutie marks, and Spike will be about the same size. What I actually meant by last moments of the series is like an epilogue of sorts. It’s more likely for established romances to be mentioned in passing rather than explored on the show. And yeah, it would make sense for the writers to use the main cast for establishing any shipping, and Spike not only qualifies but is one of the few characters who actually actively express interests in romance.

Well considering that this series probably last for a lot more seasons i can guess that Spike will be old enough by that time to really get shipped in the last episode. If writers going to pick some shippings, then it will be with the characters they are friends with and that appear every season. Spike qualify in every term.

Yeah, as with any potential ship, Sparity would probably only happen at the last moments of the series, whenever that might come along. The show is mainly about friendship and comedy anyway, and not always consistent with their own characters, not to mention the retcons.

I think last episode of last season will establish their pairings like every show do. For some people shipping is a form of discussion about possible outcome of these pairings based on how these characters react in the show and with who they interact. Shipping is not always “look how cute these 2 random characters that never spoke with eachother look like”. Shipping is as much of headcanon discussion as theories about Equestria and it’s lore.

Given this show’s track record on romance, I doubt any pairings involving main characters will come anywhere near to becoming canon. That being said, people should be allowed to ship what they want without having killjoys come around and tell them how delusional they are. All and all, shippers shouldn’t feel the need to put down or mock ships contrary to their own.

I never shipped Sparity and i don’t ship it now either. But i could understand from where are those Sparity shippers coming from. I think some writers haven’t fully understood how young Spike is and they wrote them as some pairing that would be possible in the future. Now after Meghan clarified it on her panel, i think except fans also those writers realised their “oops” when writing them. I bet Larson wrote him more as a kid doing kid stuff in Season 5 rather than trying to impress Rarity.

people misunderstood secret of my excess. yes, she was always aware of his crush (who not?) but he is just a good friend for her (you know, because he is just a kid… KID) and nightmare rarity is just a big fan service (like everything in idw)

Secret of My Excess and Nightmare Rarity took it more seriously than recent episodes and comics. In SoME Rarity was aware of his crush while in Simple way she was totally oblivious to this idea. There is a visible change in their relationship now.

I think these were the times were staff actually shipped them. Now they made Rarity caring less about Spike and more about other stallions. Both in comics and tv show.

I wish Heather Nufner would come back. I loved this arc and also enjoyed the Pirate and Bookworm arcs, all 3 of which were written by her.

I like this arc and the Big Mac arc, both for completely different reasons.

Still probably the best comic arc even if it didn’t have all of this. Was more interesting than any other.
