The important part is that you never stop dreaming.
Rigidity of words and expectations without knowledge are obvious things that we have to understand and get over, however it’s good to not always trust the status quo, and do your best to make reality what you dream of. At the end of the day you are part of reality.

You don’t need to be sorry for your old self, if you think you were just naive and over-optimistic back then. It may be useful to accept becoming less than desired. If that is not what you want, you can still fight for the better as long as you are alive.
(I believe this statement myself because one friend of mine has showed that anything can be changed if you are determined enough. He fought himself a university degree and engineering career after being an uneducated unemployed alcoholic for 13 years.)

Filly Cheerilee had dreams, expecting the final product, Adult Cheerilee, to become something bigger and better from her perspective.
Adult Cheerilee had to deal with unforeseen circumnstances that prevent her from becoming what the filly self intended.
As kids, we have only a partial knowledge of the world and our dreams are based on said partial vision.
Once we become adults, we understand some sacrifices have to be made to achieve said dream, sometimes we are just not willing to do.
For example, take we want to want to win the nobel prize and cure cancer at 10. As kids, that’s an abstract concept, but if they told them you need to be a shut-in, spend almost every waking hour studying and then trying and failing over and over for decades, absolutely no guarantee of succeed and against thousands and thousands of people like you doing the same…
Will your 10 y.o. self do it knowing that?

Yeah, turns out that lacking critical information on how things work can cause inflated expectations the final product just cannot deliver.
